“A happy dog is a well-kept dog but a well-kept dog isn’t necessarily a happy dog.”
When buying or adopting a dog, we’re always told to take good care of him or her, but do we really pay heed to it? Sometimes we don’t and that’s why our dogs turn lazy or sick. If we really love our little furballs, we’d want them to be genuinely happy so here are the ten best ways to keep your dog on his toes and happy all the time 😀
1. GIVE HIM TREATS WHEN HE DOES A TRICK
No “Trick Or Treat”, It’s All About “Trick And Treat”
A dog loves being appreciated by not just his owners but also other people, so when he does a fun trick like rolling on the floor, or getting his leash on his own, or playing fetch with you, you should give him some chew sticks to keep him happy. When you give him some treat or reward, it tells him that you’re treating him specially and that’s an incentive for him to do more tricks to please you.
2. MASSAGE HIM AT TIMES
You can do that much, can’t you? After all, your dog gives you all that stress-buster love when you come home from work and makes you sooooo happy!
Dogs get tired at times too, be it from just lying down or after a walk, they do get tired. Their muscles and joints ache and the best thing that would relax them at that point of time would be a nice and calming massage. You could rub their belly for a while, or give them a short massage on their head. You could even rub their joints because that would help them unwind. This brings down their stress levels and soothes their joint aches too, if any. Dogs love getting these massages regularly so even if it is just for a while, take out ten minutes from your schedule and sit down to relax them and yourself too.
3. TAKE THEM FOR WALKS REGULARLY
‘READY FOR A WALK’?
If you have a dog at home, you’d know what I mean when I say ‘READY FOR A WALK’? Dogs absolutely love going for a walk so much so that some of them go and get their leash on their own and hand it to the owner to remind them that it’s their time for a walk. One should always take his dog for a walk at least twice a day. If the dog isn’t taken for a walk on a daily basis then he would turn sick. Play with him hide and seek and boost his confidence and other active games like fetch with them.
4. TAKE THEM TO THE PARK AND FIX A PLAYDATE
It’s Date timeee! well, a Playdate! But whatever!
Exercising and taking your dogs to play with you keeps them engaged and happy. Lack of running around creates boredom for them and increases their stress levels. You’d think that such little beings could never get stressed but then they do when you don’t make them play.
Tell your friend to get their dog to the park when it isn’t a chaotic day and get your dogs to run around and let go.
5. TAKE HIM FOR A DOG SPA
And you should use the time and get one too! 😍
Treat him to a spa once a month maybe where he can totally relax and get his hair brushing done, get a bath (not all like it though), they can their body cleaned for ticks and fleas, this makes them feel great and you as well. Take out time from your schedule and drop him off at the groomer’s for a good day, pamper your dog like your own baby and he will make you the happiest.
6. GIVE HIM A BRUSHING REGULARLY
Good for you, good for them!
It is important for you to give your dog a brushing on a day to day basis otherwise you will see hair lying all over your house. They love it when you given them a brushing, it soothes their skin and fur. Giving them a brushing would also help reduce hair fall so that helps you and them as well.
7. GET HIS FAVOURITE CHEWABLE TOYS AND TREATS
It’s Treat O’ Clock!!!
When you leave your dog alone at home, he gets really bored and lonely so in order to avoid that you should bring him his favourite toys so that he would not chew the rug or your socks. Turn the television on as well so that they think someone is there in the room and they do not get scared. Make your dog play with those toys, throw it around the house so that they can run around and play with it. Treat them with their favourite goodies every now and then, so that they can sleep in peace.
8. PRAISE YOUR DOG EVERY NOW AND THEN
Who doesn’t like to get praised? It’s the sweetest sound, as they say! 😉
Dogs love to get praises in public in front of strangers or even at home in front of other family members. Teach them new tricks and once they finally do it correctly, praise them and pet them well. They look forward to getting appreciated and sense the tone in your voice when you’re praising them. Every time that they’d get an appreciation, they’d do it more in the future and then they’d expect more appreciation from your end because this makes them really happy.
9. LET YOUR DOG COME ONTO THE BED SOMETIMES
But Shhhh!! Make sure that your mother doesn’t see that, else be ready for a half-an hour lecture that you didn’t sign up for! (Don’t tell us that we didn’t warn you!)
All of us know that our mothers are pretty strict when it comes to letting our dogs come onto the bed or jump on the couch, sofa or any piece of furniture in fact. But, every once in a while, you could let them snuggle with you at night in bed because what could be better than hugging them and sleeping? Let them sleep soundly on the sofa at times, let them do it!
10. LOVE HIM ENDLESSLY
“Love is all you need!”
Lastly, love him with all your heart and he will do the same because there is no better friend than a dog. Pamper him, don’t hit him, play and jump around with him and be gentle with him. Your dog is the only one who loves you more than anyone else so keep him happy by following all the other points and both – you and your dog will remain happily ever after :’)
