Virat Kohli wins Polly Umrigar Award for best international cricketer

Virat Kohli is all set to be commemorated with the top BCCI award on June 12 – Polly Umrigar Award for being the best international cricketer for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. From the men’s category, Virat Kohli is the only one who will be getting this honour. And on the other end, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana have clinched the maiden recipients of the award for best international cricketer (women) for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons respectively.

Taking into the consideration of Kohli’s recent form in the International cricket, he has already stolen the hearts of all. He has been in a phenomenal form since the start of the 2016 season. He, being one of the busiest cricketers in the world and that too after playing 134 competitive matches and scoring 8545 runs across formats, including the Indian Premier League somehow caught the eyeballs of all cricket lovers. 
The BCCI has already felicitated four awards in remembrance of Late Jagmohan Dalmiya. The Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy belongs to those who have been the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker respectively in the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy and to the Best Junior and Senior Cricketer in women’s cricket.
The BCCI has extended the expansion of the prize money for nine categories by Rs 1 lakh and the revised prize money is Rs 1.5 lakh.

Whereas, the Cricket Association of Bengal got its recognition as the best State Association resulting their consistent performances in the BCCI domestic tournaments for the 2016-17 season while the Delhi and District Cricket Association gets the prize for the 2017-18 season.

CoA chief Vinod Rai in that very context said that-, “I congratulate all the winners of the BCCI Annual Awards. The last two years have been fabulous for Indian Cricket with both the men and women’s teams doing very well. We take pride in their achievements and this is our small way of acknowledging their on-field efforts.”

On the other end, Diana Edulji, member CoA, also opened up in that very context and said-, “This year we will be presenting awards for the past two seasons and that’s indeed a big occasion ahead of the historic Test against Afghanistan. For the first time, an award category for the best International Cricketer (Woman) has been introduced and it is a step in the right direction.”

CK Khanna being BCCI acting president also opened his mouth on this very matter and said-,”The BCCI Annual Awards is an occasion where former greats of the game, the present generation and the stars of tomorrow come under one roof. It is mainly an opportunity for BCCI to show its gratitude towards cricketers who enrich this game with their skills and hard work.”

In the end, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri also brought forth his opinion and said-,”Every year we have champion players delivering champion performances. Boosting the player’s confidence is what the awards are meant for. And at the same time, we expect that we get more noteworthy performances in the season to follow.”
